International clients · Madrid & online across Spain
Legal support in Spain, in clear English
Mercader Legal is a Madrid-based law firm that works online across Spain with international individuals and companies. Property, inheritance, contracts and disputes — handled with a clear scope, fees confirmed in writing and a named lawyer responsible for your matter.
Who we help
Spanish law, without the language barrier or the surprises
If you live abroad and have interests in Spain — a property, an inheritance, a company, a dispute — you already know the two usual problems: legal Spanish is a language of its own, and fees that "depend on how things go" are not fees, they are a blank cheque.
We work the other way round: you explain your situation in English, we tell you honestly whether it fits the firm, what we would do and what it would cost — in writing, before anything starts. If your matter does not need a law firm, we will say so and point you in the right direction.

How we work
From first contact to closing report
-
Tell us about your situation
Through the form or in a first consultation, in English. We review the information, deadlines and fit, and tell you clearly whether we can help.
-
Scope and written quote
We define in writing what work will be done, what is excluded, what it costs and by when. Nothing starts without your acceptance.
-
Engagement letter
The relationship is formalised with a clear engagement letter: scope, fees, the lawyer responsible and the terms. No surprise small print.
-
Execution with client portal
Your matter is handled by a named lawyer. Through the portal you follow requests, documents, messages and progress at any time.
-
Closing report
When the work finishes, you receive the documented outcome: what was done, what changed and what to watch from now on.
Fees
Known in advance, confirmed in writing
Our fee structure is public: one-off services with fixed or starting prices, monthly plans for ongoing support, and litigation always quoted separately, phase by phase. You will never find yourself inside a procedure whose cost you did not accept first.
A 30-minute consultation costs €90 and a 60-minute consultation costs €175, VAT included — often the most efficient first step. The initial assessment through our form is free.
Fees are always confirmed in writing before any engagement begins.

What international clients ask before starting
If your question is not here, the initial assessment through our form is free and carries no obligation.
Can you handle my matter entirely in English?
Yes. Advice, written reports, contracts review and day-to-day communication can be handled in English. Some formal documents in Spain must be in Spanish — when that happens, we explain exactly what they say before you sign anything.
Do I need to travel to Spain for my matter?
Usually not. Most of the relationship runs online: video calls, the client portal and electronic document exchange. When a signature or a notarial act requires presence, we plan it well in advance and, where possible, work through a power of attorney.
How do fees work for international clients?
The same way as for local clients: published starting prices and a written quote before any engagement. One-off services have a fixed or starting price; ongoing support is a monthly plan; litigation is always quoted separately, phase by phase.
Who will handle my matter?
Every matter has a named responsible lawyer, under the direction of José Mercader Castaño. When a matter needs external specialists — court agents, experts or other professionals — you are informed first and they are quoted separately.
Do you handle visas, residence permits or relocation?
No. Immigration and residence matters fall outside our scope; when they come up, we point you to trusted external specialists in visas and permits, while we handle your legal matters in Spain. Both scopes stay separate.
